In a heartfelt commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, the Concerned Citizens of the Atewa Landscape organized an impactful educational event at Kibi Senior High Technical School, focused on the urgent theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Now.”
The event brought together students, teachers, environmental advocates, and officials in a dynamic dialogue on the growing threat of plastic pollution and the critical need for sustainable waste management practices. It aimed to empower young people with knowledge and inspire practical actions toward a cleaner and healthier environment.
Representatives from the Forestry Commission and A Rocha Ghana attended the session, offering expert perspectives on environmental stewardship and Ghana’s strategies for curbing plastic pollution. The workshop was facilitated by Green Restoration Ghana, whose team led a creative and interactive session on waste reuse and recycling.
One of the highlights of the day was a hands-on art project where students and staff used discarded plastic materials to create artwork, demonstrating innovative ways of reimagining waste. These artistic expressions served not only as symbols of environmental hope but also as a challenge to rethink the way we use and dispose of plastics.
The program encouraged students to become environmental ambassadors within their communities, emphasizing individual responsibility and collective action in reducing the prevalence of single-use plastics.
The Concerned Citizens of the Atewa Landscape expressed their commitment to continue raising awareness on environmental issues, especially those impacting the Atewa Forest and surrounding communities. The success of this event underscored the importance of grassroots involvement in global environmental campaigns.
World Environment Day 2025 serves as a timely reminder that every action counts in the fight against plastic pollution and that the path to a sustainable future starts with education, creativity, and community collaboration.
